Changes to W-2 & 1099 Filing Deadlines

Employers are facing W-2 & 1099 filing changes for the 2016 tax year. Employers will now be required to file W-2's with the federal government by January 31, 2017, which is earlier than the previous years deadlines of February 28th for paper filings and March 31st for e-filings. The new date will match the due date for sending copies of the forms to employees. The new January 31st deadline will also apply to 1099's reporting nonemployee compensation in box 7.
